SPARROW FALLS is a six-piece post-punk rock band from Maastricht, the Netherlands. The band plays a unique blend of raw, honest punk rock and dramatic rock with a pinch of 80ties hard rock! Sparrow Falls was formed in 2005 by vocalist Merijn Verhees and guitarist Ed van Hees. From their home base Maastricht, the Netherlands, the line-up was completed with guitarist Lando van Berlo, Boris Wouters on bass and Youri Linskens on drums. After having played in various loud guitar bands, all their expertise was pulled together in a new musical group that does not limit itself to any genre. In 2011, much acclaimed debut album Tides was released. Together with this release, Sparrow Falls continued as a six-piece, with the arrival of keyboardist Stijn Bannier. The full-length launched the band in the Dutch music scene and was followed with an intensive touring period. The band toured the Netherlands, Belgium and Albania, was invited for the Dutch travelling festival PopRonde and won the Audience Award during the finals of Heineken's Grote Prijs van Nederland, the biggest live competition of the Netherlands. 2012 highlights included their promotional activities being featured during Eurosonic/Noorderslag Interactive Awards, their selection as 'Dutch Sound of 2012' by 3voor12 and comprehensive touring as an acoustic folk, country and Americana seven-piece, replacing their guitars, keyboards and amps with banjo, mandolin, harmonium and double-bass. In late 2012, the band saw founding member and guitarist Ed leaving. With singer Merijn's brother Elmer already playing mandolin with the band, the choice for a new guitarist was easily made. Autumn 2013 marks the release of Sparrow Falls' new EP Maelstrom. Recorded again with producer Igor Wouters (Gold, Backfire!, Born From Pain) at the Amsterdam Recording Company, six new songs elaborate Sparrow Falls' take on post-punk rock: compelling power and committed reposes, intricate melodies and massive harmonies, bashing guitars and a lonesome piano. Like the on-stage twilight lamps framing the band's energetic and affecting live shows, it has lightness drawn from almost any musical genre.
