Description

They Call Me Muddy Waters on LP

Personnel includes: Muddy Waters (vocals, guitar); Pat Hare, Sammy Lawhorn, Pee Wee Madison, Jimmy Rogers (guitar); James Cotton, Little Walter (harmonica); Pinetop Perkins, Otis Spann, Andrew Stephenson (piano); Big Crawford, Calvin Jones (bass); Francey Clay, Elgin Evans, Willie Smith (drums). Recorded in Chicago between 1951 & 1967. Includes liner notes by Pete Welding. Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz. For some reason, most blues reissue CDs are compilations and repackages, and so it's nice to occasionally see a classic blues album from decades ago be reissued in it's original form, intact and not overburdened with extra tracks. When he moved from his native Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Chicago during the great wartime migration of the 40's, the former McKinley Morganfield sowed the seeds of a revolution, marrying the structures of acoustic Delta blues to the electrified full-band sound of urban jump blues to almost single-handedly create the Chicago blues style, a major development in the eventual creation of Rock & Roll. These 12 tracks, including such classics as "Crawlin' Kingsnake" and the boastful title track, are essential for blues and rock fans alike.
